The second season of Gilmore Girls begins nearly immediately after the first season’s conclusion. The first four episodes take place over the summer and boy, is it a summer to remember.

The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are this Sunday on CBS and will be hosted by the incomparable Neil Patrick Harris. That means it is time to make my annual picks yet again in hopes of doing better than the previous year. I was going to break this up into a multi-day post, but since I got these out so late I’ve included all of the major award. Check it out below.
The new television season effectively begins tonight and they means I’m going crazy trying to catch every new show that I haven’t been able to watch the pilot for already. While I’m excited for some returning favorites, here are some new shows (in alphabetical order) that piqued my interest.

Let’s finish off the inaugural season of Gilmore Girls. This is really the third act of a three act play. Everything comes full circle, almost, and personal relationships really take center stage as the show begins to gain traction on the pace and angle it will take the rest of the series.
The mirroring of storylines between Lorelai and Rory is terrific. The love triangles, the interactions with Emily, the whole she-bang. It’s really great from a writing perspective as well as a thematic one. These last seven episodes show how in sync the Girls are and how alike their lives are – save for the fact that Rory didn’t get knocked up at 16.
Now that it’s been 12 years since the tragic terrorist attacks in Manhattan, Washington, DC and western Pennsylvania I have realized that officially half of my life has been lived in a post-9/11 world. From this moment onward only a fraction of my life will have been lived when Osama bin Laden, terrorist, Threat Level Orange, airport security and so many different words were just that: words.

I’ve decided to go ahead and re-watch one of my biggest crushes: Rory Gilmore. Every seven or so episodes I’m going to recap some observations and favorite moments. Maybe alone with reviews of some sort… So, here we go:
I first met the gang from Grouplove on the sunny beaches of DeLuna Fest in October 2011. I interviewed them under the boardwalk and then watched them from the side of the stage as they melted faces. Afterward they invited me to dinner and beers in the hot tub where we talked about a lot that didn’t really matter to my feature on them, but it was all very interesting. What stands out most from that nearly two year old interview was frontman Christian Zucconi’s infatuation with Kurt Cobain.
Here are five bands that I’m digging now that I feel are worth some of your time.
Wow, I’ve been living under a rock, (okay, I’ve been living on a lake in Maine at a summer camp…) but I’m back with a new playlist. It has some new singles from some of my favorites as well as some newer bands I’ve been digging and deep cuts from not-so-new albums. No gimmick here; just songs to consider. Oh, surprisingly there are quite a few electronic-heavy songs…
