It was a pleasure to talk to Tony Smith, the former guitarist/vocalist of Sleeper Agent. The alt-rock band from Bowling Green, Kent. released two albums. It was during the peak of the first album when I first met the band at DeLuna Fest in Pensacola, Fla. before interviewing them a few months later in Chicago as they opened for Cage the Elephant for a New Year’s Eve bash.
That was December 2011. Five years later and Tony is no longer engaged to Alex Kandel – the lead singer of the band – and he’s now living in Nashville as a graphic artist. He’s created a new collaborative project called Teem, which is a completely DIY attempt at creative music. Smith does everything from his bedroom, which included recording this podcast (I also record from my own bedroom).
He opens up publicly about Sleeper Agent’s breakup, working in Nashville as a bar back and writing music for other people, indie bands’ finances, as well as his new single “War Paint.”
