21st Screen Actors Guild Predictions

SAG AwardsMeant to post this right after the Oscar nominees were announced, but I got tied up and forgot to upload it.

The SAG Awards are a terrific predictor for the Academy Awards. Unlike the Golden Globes, this ceremony doesn’t break up the film categories into drama and musical/comedy. There are five nominees in each category (occasionally six on a rare occurrence). While there is no “best film” there is a Best Ensemble category, which can help as a predictor for the Best Picture Oscar.

The SAGs air Sunday January 25 on both TNT and TBS.

Predicting the 65th Emmy Awards

The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are this Sunday on CBS and will be hosted by the incomparable Neil Patrick Harris. That means it is time to make my annual picks yet again in hopes of doing better than the previous year. I was going to break this up into a multi-day post, but since I got these out so late I’ve included all of the major award. Check it out below.

‘TV Guide’ Fan Favorite Awards: How I Voted (Part One)

TV Guide is currently taking votes for their annual fan favorite awards. There are 13 categories total, but only the first six are available for voting so far. There will be seven more categories opened up for voting over the next few days and I’ll write the second part to this on March 3.

Here’s a list of the nominees, how I voted and why. You can vote here (via Facebook) to make your voice heard.

Favorites of 2012: returning television

Over the course of December, I’ll present a series of my own end of 2012 lists. Unlike many, I won’t give you a best of list because that’s no fun. Instead I’ll give you lists of my favorite things from 2012. Because let’s face it: the best stuff isn’t always what you love the most.

My favorite returning television shows of 2012:

Emmy predictions

I already wrote about my initial reactions to the 64th Emmy Nominations, but I’ve had time to think about it and am officially making my predictions for this Sunday’s award show. I’ll keep it short and sweet and to the point. I’ll only discuss the major acting award in drama/comedy. No writing, directing or guest appearances. No miniseries or TV movies either. Just the big guns.

10 returning shows I’m absolutely stoked for (and you should be too)

Narrowing this list down to five shows returning this fall was the most difficult thing in the world. So I didn’t. Instead I made it 10; which was still a difficult number. People might question why I left off perennial favorites, like shows about zombies and Prohibition era gangsters, but I’ve always had a quirky loyalty to certain shows and have followed a few of these from the beginning. Here we go:

Reactions to the 64th Emmy Nominations

I love, love, love the Emmys. It’s my favorite night of the year. I woke up too late to live tweet or anything crazy like that so I watched a repeat of the nomination here. I watched each category be announced, paused it and wrote about it. The order you see below is the order Kerry Washington and Jimmy Kimmel announced them in.

Supporting roles were not announced during the webcast and can be found listed here. I included my thoughts on these categories after the Outstanding Comedy Series award. I chose not to touch on all of the awards (writing, directing, etc) but will eventually make my final picks in every category in the week prior to the ceremony. Enjoy.
